@dbgrady said today that the New York Times plans to vanish from public discourse in 2011, I can only assume that great things like this blog about sex, privacy and values will become unreadable and uncirculatable and not valuable once the pay system is introduced.

COVERS - It’s Not Just Another Music Magazine →
Great article on “taqwacore” with a somewhat unfortunate title. Interesting that Omar Waqar complains about any foreign music being fit into “world” music but all the bands & people in “taqwacore” are being lumped into Middle East in the title. Overall, it’s an excellent article though

Caryn Sweeney’s privileged position and her presumably easy to do exercise of living on food stamps for a month is laughable. She says that she researched farmer’s markets, checked sale fliers, made a spreadsheet of recipes, made stock to use later, made multiple stopis in a single grocery shopping trip, had marathon vegetable chopping sessions and packed away things for use during the...

The Funniest Reasons Customers Reject Books -... →
Absolutely hilarious. My favorite one: a customer rejecting Here Comes Darrell because there was no mention of an environmental impact study being undertaken to assess whether or not a pond should be put in and she wouldn’t want her grandson to grow up thinking that ponds can be put anywhere. Mind you, this is a cute children’s book.

Poder 360° - Gen Y Hispanics →
I think that libraries sometimes make the assumption that Hispanics as Spanish speakers as a group are less interested in Spanish content on the web no matter what their age or when they or their families immigrated. This is a very interesting refutation of that idea.

There are just some things we shouldn’t give up to have what is not a very good health care bill, like a woman’s right to choose whether or not to terminate a pregnancy, particularly if they are paying for their insurance themselves. Worst Birthday Ever at 10:30 AM
Do birthdays just get worse and worse as you get older? Maybe it’s because my birthday last year was so filled with euphoria…Obama had just been elected the day before (oh the jokes about what everyone had gotten me for my birthday were wonderful last year) and there was a great feeling of hope in the air, both personally and in general society. A year later and everything just feels...
